What are the opening hours?
How does it work?
Before you step into the tank you will first receive safety instructions from the tank instructor. The instructor explains everything about the tank and makes the visitor ready for his/her first tank drive. The instructor will also drive along on the tank and give guidance during the tank drive. The driver and instructor communicate with each other via special tank headphones.
The tank has a Diesel engine which is running (in neutral gear) at the moment you step into the tank. After you and all the passengers sit down the instructor will tell you when to drive away. Driving away will be exactly the same as driving a Diesel car; the only big difference is the steering of it. With your left hand you hold the left break and with your right hand you hold the right brake. The moment you bring the left stick (poke) to your body, the left track (left side) of the tank will break and you will make a turn to the left. The moment you bring your right stick (poke) to your body, the right track (right side) will break and you will make a turn to the right.
Which tank can I drive?
We have a Soviet tank with a weight of 34 tonnes, 580 HP and a maximum speed of 50 km/h: the T-55 Bergepanzer. The tank is 3,27 meters wide, 6,2 meters long and 2,10 meters high. The chassis is from the T-55 tank: the most manufactured tank in the world. The T-55 Bergepanzer is one of the T-55 models without any weapons on it. The T-55 Bergepanzer was used in the war to help others tanks and military vehicles to help them out of the mud.
Is it possible to drive other tanks at Panzerland?
At this moment we only have one T-55 Bergepanzer. But who knows what the future brings…
What is the minimum age?
To drive a tank you need to be at least 18 years old and have a valid driving license. You need to have the driving license with you, so we can make a copy of it. If you want to be a passenger on the tank you need to be at least 14 years old. If you are under the age of 14, you need to be guided by someone who is at least 18 years old. This person also needs to be a passenger on the tank.
Can I eat or drink something at Panzerland?
Yes, at the location there is a bar near the water which is managed by Experience Island. At the bar you can eat (sandwiches and snacks) and drink something. In case you want to eat something special please contact Experience Island, so they can organise the menu.
Can I visit Panzerland without a voucher or appointment?
Yes you can! However if you want to drive the tank, make sure to buy a voucher upfront and make an appointment. If you visit Panzerland without an appointment there is a big chance you won’t be able to drive the tank on the same day, as we mostly are fully booked for the day. If you visit Panzerland and you only want to drive along on the tank (as a passenger) the chance is big we can find a spot on the same day.
How it all started
Panzerland is founded by Dutch guy Eugene Hendrikx.
He moved to Berlin in 2012 for work. In Berlin he met Axel Heyse, a German Tank Commando who has served the German army for years. Axel opened the first tank school of Europe near Berlin in 1994. He used his own land to let visitors drive in his tanks. It was a success from the start. Axel now owns eight tanks (also a Leopard) and besides driving them he also repairs and sells them. During Eugene’s first visit at Axel’s Tank School he directly saw the potential of his company and believed the business model of Axel. At the end of Eugene’s first tank drive he was so enthusiastic he told Axel: “One day, I will come back and buy a tank from you Axel!” Axel answered with an East-Berlin accent: “Yes yes, every Dutch person tells me after their first ride… No one came back to really buy one, although 20% of all my customers are Dutch”.
On the 28th of August 2018 the day had come: Eugene went to Axel to tell him he wanted to buy a tank from him. Axel was confused and positively surprised. He told Eugene that he had no tank for sale at the moment, however a friend of him maybe had one. One minute later Axel was on the phone with his friend and asked if he had a tank for sale. After a short phone conversation they scheduled a meeting. Two weeks later Eugene was on his way with his intern (Yannick de Groot) to buy his first tank.
